Inspiration Friday ~ Value Your Worth

embrace self worth

The words centered on value your worth by Tara Gentile are words I heard sometime last week as I watched Tara’s live teaching on creativelive.com. One of the key lessons I took away from that 3 day course were the words “Never underestimate the impact of your work in the lives of others no matter what you sell”.

2 days ago, with immense help from donors and supporters we successfully completed another book drive to help build a library in Africa. Last year myself and donors helped start a library in Ghana and this year we worked in Swaziland in conjunction with Books for Africa’s future and the African Library Project providing reading books for 4th – 8th graders.
Sometimes it becomes very tempting to see such contributions as not enough to help reshape the access and quality of education on the continent but hearing those words hit home with me and let me appreciate more the micro value of giving and putting back value into the world. Because of those books, a child somewhere is developing the habit of reading and building a skill that is crucial to success in today’s world. If you doubt it, ask Warren Buffett, he can give you the load down on the power of books. Also because of these books, a child will gain crucial reading and writing skills critical to independence and a mind shift from societal victim to contributor.

At the end of the day, it is not about if you sell physical goods or provide a service. The fact is every single one of us has something to give the world. It could be how you volunteer on the weekends, or always walk around with a smile making someone else’s day a little better or it could be the coins you gave a man on the street that saved him from dying of starvation. No matter what you do or who you are, always remember you are worth something and it is your duty to share that something with the rest of the world.

What will you give today? Tell us in the comments section.
