Book of The Week: The Count of Monte Cristo

Adventure, romance, injustice and exciting twist and turns, The Count of Monte Cristo never grows old to read and is one of the top classic reads. I first heard about this book through my mum as she kept talking about how interesting it was and she was absolutely right.

It is a story about a young man named Edmond Dantes. Dantes is a young sailor about to be named captain of a cargo ship and preparing to marry his sweetheart but unfortunately becomes the victim of a plot by envious rivals. It leads to false imprisonment of the worst kind, with young Dantes banished to the 19th-century French version of Alcatraz. Dantes is an innocent man, clueless as to who has conspired against him and very ignorant about how horrible his prospects for ever seeing daylight again have become, he suffers for years in jail. During this time, he learns new skills,  puts together an escape plan and revenge for his plotters. On escaping jail, he seeks to take revenge and but also has to face his biggest battle, heartbreak by Mercedes his sweetheart.

This book is definately on my top books to read and is available in the public domain. An e-boook version can be gotten for free at
